The public comment period on the USDA’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) to rescind the Roadless Rule closed on October 6, 2026. Thank you to everyone who spoke up for the 45 million acres of national forest land and the wild snowscapes, wildlife habitat, clean water, and backcountry recreation they support.
The Forest Service will now review public comments as it moves toward a Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision. We’ll continue tracking this process closely and keep you updated.

Winter Wildlands Alliance has joined six conservation organizations in a legal challenge to the State of Alaska’s approval of an easement for the proposed Ambler industrial road.
The 211-mile road would cut through one of the wildest landscapes in North America, threatening critical caribou habitat, rivers and streams, and the lands that Alaska Native communities depend on for subsistence and traditional ways of life.
