Endurance athlete, environmental advocate
Home Base: Boulder, CO
When Clare’s not running up mountains in ultra races, she’s skinning them! Partial to uphill, Clare races skimo (yes, with the skinny skis), but also enjoys hearty doses of good old-fashioned backcountry skiing, without anyone timing her. After studying coral reef ecology at Princeton, Clare taught English in Thailand, where she also started an environmental stewardship program, Earthraging, for the fishing village where she lived. She’s since returned to her home state of Colorado to run, ski and take part in environmental advocacy on the home front. She won the 2016 Leadville Trail 100—her first 100-miler—and in 2017 won and set a course record in the elite UTMB CCC, a 100K race around the Mont Blanc massif in France, Switzerland and Italy.
