April 30, 2026 – After eight years of showing up for winter, Eric’s commitment paid off. He won our Antarctica Giveaway and is headed to the seventh continent, where massive glaciers, untouched peaks, and some of the most remote ski terrain on earth await. All from a $35 membership.

Eric has been part of this community for nearly a decade. For eight consecutive years, he’s attended the Backcountry Film Festival. He’s supported the work to protect winter wildlands. And like so many in this community, he’s spent a lifetime building a connection to the backcountry.

After nearly 30 years on snow, he’s watched landscapes change. He’s seen motorized recreation pressures grow. And instead of stepping away, he chose to be part of the solution, joining WWA to help protect the backcountry ski terrain that makes winter so special.

Now, that commitment is taking him somewhere few will ever go. Antarctica.

Through our partnership with Ice Axe Expeditions, we’re sending one member of this community on a once-in-a-lifetime expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula. A place where mountains rise straight out of the sea, where every line is remote, and where the scale of the landscape reshapes how you think about winter.

“I’ve been backcountry skiing for almost 30 years and have seen the number of snowmobiles increase exponentially from a few here and there (mostly on forest roads) to hundreds with much more power, able to go everywhere in every direction, tracking up every inch of backcountry and filling up every available parking spot on the passes. When I first heard of WWA working to try to save some areas for nonmotorized users, I immediately wanted to join in. WWA is the leading organization focused on that goal.”
