In this month’s policy update, we share what our grassroots groups have accomplished this season and all the ways our Alliance network has kept winter wild.

The December 2020 policy update from Policy Director, Hilary Eisen: Cabinet nominations, our Grassroots Groups, and SnowSchool at Home

If there’s one thing that every backcountry skier needs to be clear about as they head into winter, it’s the parking situation at their local trailhead.

Events

The Backcountry Film Festival is a celebration of the human-powered experience and a gathering place for the backcountry snowsports community. Funds raised at each screening stay in the local community to support human-powered recreation and conservation efforts, winter education and avalanche/safety programs and to raise awareness of winter management issues.

We believe in the power of humans and their spirit. Our mission is to manifest that power in communities through stories of activists, adventurers, and the outdoors to inspire and activate. Film lineup here.

This is the screening benefitting Tahoe Backcountry Alliance. The films will be available to watch until Dec 31, 2020. Please visit our tour page for details on your local screening.

BCFF is hosted virtually and/or in-person by local grassroots groups, backcountry retailers, and other community members. We highly encourage you to attend your local screening or intentionally choose what screening you purchase tickets for (and if you don’t have one, reach out so we can schedule one for you!).

Funds raised go back to your local backcountry community, so it’s vital you “show” up from the comfort of your own home for the host(s)/location(s) that are near and dear to your heart.

The Backcountry Film Festival is a year-round, community program presented by Winter Wildlands Alliance that brings messages relevant to WWA’s mission and on-going stewardship, policy and advocacy initiatives throughout every season. A collage of human-powered stories and backcountry-inspired experiences, BCFF brings wild conversations and inspires action to communities that celebrate the present while looking towards the future.

The 16th Annual Backcountry Film Festival will be screening documentaries and ski movies about athletic pursuit in the mountains, artistic vision, friendship, and how the snowsports community is adapting to a changing environment.

A collection of our best films from the past 15 seasons, Backcountry Film Festival’s “Best of Fest” will bring us all together to get stoked for the upcoming tour and winter. While we wish we could engage you all in a binge-watching fest of all seasons past in a cozy theatre in your hometown, we figured this would be the next best thing.
