That’s a wrap on Backcountry Film Festival 2018-19!

A letter from Backcountry Film Festival Manager, Melinda Quick:

“What a whirlwind of a season! We achieved a lot of wild firsts and continued many Backcountry traditions during our 14th annual year.

This winter, our collection of films graced the screens at 108 different events – reaching over 22,000 backcountry adventurers and raising over $190,000 for our local partners.

Each season, these funds are placed right back into the screening’s hosting community. Ranging from grassroots groups, SnowSchool sites, backcountry retailers, corporate sponsors, avalanche safety organizations, advocacy groups, and more, our hosts are the backbone of this Festival and we are so grateful to be able to provide a turn-key, fundraising event to celebrate and impact their local backcountry community.

Our 10 films inspired audiences by telling a variety of stories rooted in human-powered winter adventure. We’re grateful to share the talented group of filmmakers’ stories sourced from our outdoor industry community as well as from our collection of sponsors. We can’t wait to see your films in the works right now from this winter’s adventures!

We also held our second annual Outdoor Retailer SnowShow “Night of Stoke” event to a sold out crowd of Outdoor Retailer badgeholders and VIP attendees! Industry leaders such as Jeremy Jones (Protect Our Winters), Caroline Gleich (Ski Mountaineer and WWA Ambassador), Luis Benitez (Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office), and Dan Benshoff (DPS Cinematic) spoke on stage after their films and shared insight with the audience on how to get more involved and take action within their outdoor community.

And of course this all couldn’t be done without our winter wonderland of sponsors and partners. Thank you for helping us continue to share these films with the world and for believing in the power of stories about humans and wild winters.

And lastly – thank you all for embracing me in my new role as BCFF Manager this year. It’s been wonderful to get to know and learn from our backcountry friends, especially the entire Winter Wildlands Alliance team and our grassroots partners. I look forward to celebrating the upcoming 15th annual season over a Sierra Nevada brew while watching some hoot-and-holler-worthy winter films. Until then!

Cheers to the wild,

Melinda”

Thank you to our 2018-19 season sponsors and partners!
