NASA in the SnowSchool Schoolyard

Thanks to an ongoing collaboration with Boise State University’s NASA-funded snow science research, we’ve successfully incorporated hands-on science experiences that give SnowSchool students a role in helping scientists do the important work of measuring, monitoring and studying the snowpack.

Human-Powered Success in Washington

Thanks to the vision and perseverance of longtime WWA Grassroots Group, El Sendero Backcountry Ski and Snowshoe Club, there’s a new winter non-motorized area for backcountry skiers, splitboarders, and snowshoers in Washington’s Eastern Cascades!

Grand Teton National Park Wants Your Input on Protecting Bighorn Sheep Winter Habitat

The National Park Service is seeking public input as it develops a long-term plan for protecting bighorn sheep winter habitat within Grand Teton National Park. This is our chance to help develop a management plan that will work for skiers and sheep!

Phase 1 of NEPA Restoration Complete

Last month, the Biden Administration restored the basic environmental safeguards provided by the National Environmental Policy Act. The final rule will take effect on May 20 and generally restores provisions that were in effect for decades before being gutted in 2020.

New Protections for Mt. Hood

We are working closely with our friends at Outdoor Alliance to improve and enhance the outdoor recreation opportunities at Mt. Hood in Oregon. The Mt. Hood and Columbia River Gorge Recreation Enhancement and Conservation Act offers much-needed protections, enhancements, and updates for the area. Send a message to your members of Congress about the proposed protections at the button.

If you’ve made it this far…

…you know we’re working hard! Thank you for being here.

If you haven’t joined as a wild winter member yet, we hope this month’s Stash Blast has convinced you that you don’t have to think about supporting us only when the snow falls.

Even though “winter” is in our name, our work is year-round… and sometimes even busier in the warmer months! We hope you will consider becoming a monthly donor to support our work year-round.

A membership directly supports winter conservation, advocacy for human-powered recreation, and an educational program that gets more than 35,000 kids on snow each winter.

We’ll keep you in-the-know about issues affecting the places you care about, with opportunities for you to take action when it matters.

Join for $5 a month and that’s $60 a year you’ve contributed to our work. Or join for $10 a month and double your support. However you give, we hope you will consider joining today in light of all the work we’re doing and will do for years to come. We need you with us!

#KEEPWINTERWILD

“It’s time for a fluoro-free future of ski wax! Fluoro wax contains nasty chemicals that never biodegrade and are a known carcinogen to animals and humans. Keep the watershed of your favorite ski mountain clean by ditching your fluoro wax.

Throughout May, our friends @mountainflowecowax are hosting collection sites throughout Colorado or providing the option for wax to be mailed in for safe storage and eventual disposal in line with EPA guidance. Ditch your fluoro wax and get some sweet mountainFLOW swag in return!”
