Whether you’re going to Mars, Saturn, or Jupiter…
…we’re grateful you’re on planet Earth with us! At Winter Wildlands Alliance, we love to nerd out on snow science (especially across intergalactic snowscapes).
Are you a snow nerd like us?
If so, consider becoming a member of our Alliance. If you’re already a member, consider gifting a membership or becoming a monthly sustainer!
We are skiers and snowboarders. Snowshoers and mountaineers. Dog sledders and fat bike riders. We are YOU and we give a voice to solitude together. Join us to celebrate winter, take action, and keep winter wild.
Lutsen Permit Denied: Moose Mountain Saved
After 7 years of advocacy and engagement by Winter Wildlands Alliance, Superior Highland Backcountry, and many others, the Superior National Forest in Minnesota announced that it would be denying Lutsen Mountains Resort’s proposal to expand its commercial operations onto the Superior National Forest. This sets a massive precedent for future ski resort expansions on public lands!
10th Biennial Grassroots Advocacy Conference (Nederland, CO)
We are thrilled to bring together policy makers, athletes, grassroots activists, scientists, mountain guides, elected officials and other recreation and conservation stakeholders from across the country for two full days of engaging workshops, panel discussions and informal networking on issues important to winter recreation, conservation, climate and public lands.
Through our theme, “Partnering With Nature,” we will explore the ways in which advocates, organizations, agencies, businesses and individual recreationists can effectively partner with nature to protect America’s snowscapes.
We have 9 spots available if you’d like to join us!
NEPA: Phase 2
Since 2020, we have been working alongside American Alpine Club to protect the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Our organizations are pleased to see the Biden Administration fulfilling its promises to restore NEPA and ensure that impacted communities, and the climate, are fully considered in environmental reviews.
19th Backcountry Film Festival On Tour
The 19th annual Backcountry Film Festival will premiere in Boise, ID on October 26 and go on tour across the snowbelt from there. We are thrilled to share this season’s Festival poster, designed by Tony DeBoom of Endurance Conspiracy.
We will be sharing tour dates and the film line-up soon, so bookmark the Festival tour page now and stay tuned!
Kootenai National Forest: Extended Comment Period
The Kootenai National Forest is still actively seeking public input on its preliminary Proposed Action during a scoping comment period that has been extended through September 29, 2023.
