The whitebark pine is an ancient and iconic tree of the high mountain West—a symbol of resilience, longevity, and guardianship. Rooted in harsh subalpine landscapes, it protects fragile watersheds and sustains life for Clark’s nutcrackers, grizzlies, and, yes, backcountry skiers. Today, this keystone species—once abundant across all the mountain ranges of the West—faces the threat of extinction, making it a powerful emblem of why we fight to protect wild winters.

Our Whitebark Pine Society honors donors who go above and beyond, giving $1,000 or more annually to safeguard these landscapes we love. This special community forms the backbone of Winter Wildlands Alliance—champions whose leadership fuels our mission to protect and steward America’s wildest snowscapes for generations to come.
